At the time of recording (2000) James, lived at Ceres in Fife and was 89 years old. (d.o.b. 1911). Spurred on by recording his experiences on tape Jim then wrote memoirs entitled 'A Sort of Biography on the Life of James F. Hamilton - 'A Paisley Buddy!''. In a handwritten transcript dated 1999,
Jim charts the years touching on family, friendships, childhood, adolescence, courtships, disappointments, the war years and life as a soldier, travelling and adventures, death and getting old.
