Elie Public School was opened in 1849 and was a combination of the local parish, sessional and adventure schools.
In addition to this, Elie Williamsburgh School also served the local area and was opened in January 4th 1875.
This school closed on 10th January 1908 following the death of the headmaster and the pupils were transferred to Elie Public School.
In 1907 an extension was made to the building with the old infant school becoming a cloakroom.
Elie Public School, now called Elie Primary School, remains open today in the original building.
