Maggie Berke, grandest of the Hollywood grand dames, retired from acting to support her son, a talented child film star. But cruel fate, in the form of pneumonia, soon ended his career. Blaming herself for his demise, Maggie remains in her Hollywood mansion with her step-daughter. But there are dark shadows in her life, and a growing sense of fear that leads her to invite her niece, Mari, to visit her.
