Sandford Fleming was born in Kirkcaldy in 1827 , He emigrated to Canada in 1945 and the age of 18. He already had his apprenticeship with a surveyors in Kirkcaldy which had given experience surveying railway lines, preparing him for work in Canada. He had many achievements is invention of the principal of standard time and designing the first ever postage stamp for Canada. Widely adopted by 1883 advocate of the Pacific Cable and all Red Route. One of the founders of the Royal Canadian Institute
