Books, Manuscripts
The stone circle and cairn of Balbirnie were situated about a mile north-west of Markinch in Fife, on the northern boundary of Balbirnie Park and north north-west of Balbirnie House. The excavation of the site was undertaken in 1970 and 1971, on behalf of the Department of the Environment in advance of a road-widening scheme, and the major stones were subsequently re-erected by Glenrothes Development Corporation about 125m south-east of the original position.
