Volume one of a two volume biography of Thomas Cochrane, the tenth Earl of Dundonald. Volume one covers his early years, his service in the British Navy, his entrance into Parliament, action at the Basque roads and the courtmartial of Lord Gambier. The Dundonald family owned an estate at Culross in Fife and Thomas spent much of his youth there.
