At the time this article was witten Jame Cumming had been a teacher at the Edinburgh College of Art for seven years. He had also spent five years in the Royal Air Force during which time he travelled to America, Mexico and the Far East. The series of Hebridean paintings discussed in the article were inspired by time spent on Lewis during his studies.
