Allan, John, Architect, 1847-19221914
Books, Manuscripts
This booklet is by Carnock-born architect John Allan. He outlines architecture from ancient cities up to more modern times. Fife receives a few passing mentions for its architecture and architects, for example William Dischington and the church of 'St Monan', Falkland Palace, and 'a distinguished pupil of Robert Hay of Dunfermline, was Mr Brydon... Other pupils of Hay's are ex-Provost Scobbie [Scobie] of Dunfermline; and the writer hereof.' Andrew Carnegie is mentioned in conjunction with the Temple of Peace [Peace Palace] at the Hague.
