Carnock-born architect John Allan wrote this booklet. 'The borestone of the field of Bannockburn, and the advisability of their annexation by the Burgh of Stirling'. He begins by writing about important or famous stones - Stonehenge, the Rosetta Stone and more locally, three 18 feet high stones at Lundin Links - and their meaning. He then asserts that 'of all monumental stones in Scotland the pre-eminence in significance must be accorded to the Borestone' because it held Bruce's standard at the Battle of Bannockburn. The location and size of the borestone is described. Andrew Carnegie is mentioned twice in the booklet, as John Allan appeals for the 'extensive area consecrated by the Borestone' to be purchased/'rescued'.
