William Harris was a English dissenting minister and historian who wrote a series of biographical works on the House of Stuart Kings. This work, about James VI & I, was his most controversial as it gives a detailed and highly critical portrayal of the reign of James VI and I. The author also shines a light on the monarchs character depicting him as a deeply flawed human being. James VI and I gifted the buildings of Dunfermline Abbey to his bride Anne of Denmark to be used as her Royal Residence and it would later become the birthplace of Charles I.
