Photocopy of an article about Mr Archibald Kirk and a copy of the Kirk family tree. The article is copied from the Fife, Kinross and Clackmannan People's Journal dated August 10, 1963 and has the title 'He's Lochgelly's Dick Whittington'. Archibald Kirk was born in 1895 and grew up in Lochgelly. He left school at 12 and went on to work in the Nellie Pit. During the first world war he served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was injured and lost his left leg. He was unable to continue working in the pits after the war and left for York to work at the Royal Ordnance Factory, he liked York so much that he decided to stay and would eventually become Lord Mayor of York. The article gives biographical details about his life and his visit home to Lochgelly in 1963. The accompanying item is a copy of the Kirk family tree which includes Archie Kirk and extends back through several generations of Dunfermline born family members to William Kirk born in 1763.
