Article originally published in The Scottish Genealogist about the Wellwood family. The Wellwoods appear on record as holding lands on the eastern outskirts of Dunfermline. Many members of the family are listed as holding a variety of offices in relation to the Abbey. the first appearance of the family name is in the form of de Walwod, in the 15th century. This article examines the rise of the family over a period of two centuries from 1437-1635. A follow up article also appeared in the Scottish Genealogist called 'The later Wellwoods of Touch & Garvock'.
