Dr John Shoolbred of Dunfermline, of the Bengal Establishment (surgeon to the Presidency, and to the Calcutta Native Hospital): an account of his successful treatment of hydrophobia (sometimes known as rabies) by blood-letting alone. Starting with a letter to the Editor of the Asiatic Mirror in 1812, while residing at Calcutta on the 18th of May that year, John Shoolbred wants a speedy communication of this successful medical break-through to reach as many people as possible in the quickest way he can think of. Dr Shoolbred goes on to give his own account of the case presented to him - a 25-30 year old male who had been bitten in the leg by a 'mad' dog, some 3 weeks previously. He then goes on to give a full and detailed account of the treatment he administered, and the patient's responses. Also contains two similar cases treated by Mr F. Tymon.
