Collection of traditional Scottish folk songs from a shepherd born in the Borders of Scotland. Willie Scott was born in Canonbie, Dumfries, to a singing, Shepherding family. When he was only 11 years old, Willie started a shepherding job at Hawick. He was to spend most of his working life in the borders, spending only 11 years on a Hill Farm outside Kelty in Fife, where his wife of 43 years died in 1960. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. Willie was an expert Shepherd's Crook maker (Shepherd's stick), as well as a very experienced shepherd and talented folk singer. He performed his songs all over Scotland, and appeared at 'the Howff's opening night in October 1961, in Dunfermline. In this book, Alison McMorland has compiled and edited a selection of Willie's songs, and we get a flavour of the man in an introduction by Hamish Henderson. Willie's family carry on the singing tradition to this day.
