The life and history of Catherine II who was the empress of Russia who was aslo known as Catharine the Great and led her country into the political and cultural life of Europe, carrying on the work begun by Peter the Great. She was most renowned and the longest-ruling female leader of Russia, reigning from 1762 until her death in 1796 at the age of 67. This work was translated by Henry Hunter, born in Culross in 1741. He became a Minister and scholar, known for his translations of works by scholars of note. He recieved a liscence to preach from the Prebytery of Dunfermline and became the Minister fro the South Leith Parish Church in 1766.
