'In preparing the letterpress for this edition of Slezer's Theatrum Scotiae, it has been thought desirable to give in their complete form the Descriptions contained in the original edition of the work, published in 1693. The additions to the descriptions which were contained in subsequent editions, and the illustrations by Dr. Jamieson, first published in 1814, have also been included. Dr david lLaing..has furnished a complete list of the plates in the various editions, and as some of these were inserted in the work for the first time after Captain Slezer's death, and were apparently misnamed, a list of them, with their proper designations ..is here appended.'Panoramic survey of Scotland , focussing on 'Monuments of Antiquity'. Text followed by 68 illustrative plates. Each section of text dedicated to a person of note. includes original dedication to the King and Queen[William and Mary], and the text of a royal licence granted to Sleezer by Queen Mary.
