Rev. Robert French, born in Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire in 1842. Described by his many friends and associates as, 'A man of courage and energy, of humility and tenderness, of truth and devoutness, one "greatly beloved" by all that knew him.' He was ordained in Dunfermine in 1870 and became Pastor of Queen Anne Street Congregation, Dunfermline in October 1870 to July 1872, when he accepted the offer from the congregation in Bootle, Liverpool to continue his work. This was not to be as he was striken with illness and died the same year. He was known to be a diligent and efficient catholic minister, a bold yet prudent opponent of all kinds of social evil and a supporter of good institutions.
