A letter from several Elders and lovers of Peace and Moderation in August 1752, in support of Rev. Thomas Gillespie. Rev. Gillespie was deposed from his position as Minister at Carnock, Fife on May 23rd 1752, by an Act of (General) Assembly. Rev. Thomas Gillespie had been trying to introduce a Presbytery of Relief, to help parishioners who were in poverty. This had not gone down well with the Church of Scotland, who thought that Rev. Gillespie was trying to incite his congregation, when in fact he was trying to get help for the poor of his Parish.
