Thomson, Daniel, 1833-19081897
Books, Manuscripts
An account of Daniel Thomson's travels in America. The volume is a mixture of clippings of printed articles written by Daniel Thomson and writings in his own hand. Photographs and maps have also been pasted into the volume throughout to illustrate various aspects of his journeys. At the back of the volume there is a list of the distances travelled and a log of the journeys made. Daniel Thomson was born in Dunfermline and worked in the linen industry in a variety of roles, he was editor for the 'Reformer' and became heavily involved in the Co-operative, which gave him many opportunities including purchasing missions abroad. He wrote about his travels in the 'Scottish Co-operator' and the articles pasted into this volume likely come from there. He wrote many other articles including about his local history interests and has contributed several books on the subject including 'Dunfermline Hammermen' and 'The Weavers' craft'.
