This Declaration was signed "at our Court at Dunfermline, the sixteenth day of August, 1650." After the death of Montrose, Charles had no choice but to accept the Covenants. Charles II was proclaimed King in Edinburgh 5th February, 1649, and crowned at Scone 1st January, 1651.
