References to attitudes to duelling in Scotland and mention of Fife (page119). This refers to an experiment conducted to show that the practise of drowning to provide proof of guilt or innocence did not work. Peter Chalmers was the Minister at the New Abbey Parish Kirk, Dunfermline, also known as the Abbey church and Minister of Dunfermline Abbey 1817-1870.
