In 1983 the minister of Auchtermuchty deposited the 1818 lair plan of that parish in the Munimemts Department of St. Andrews University. He had received it from its then owner who was working in South Africa. The plan and the list of lair owners that completes it can be considered as an early census of the (generally male) heads of households in the parish at that time. The occupation ortrade of each individual is given and in some cases the place of residence
