Notes:
David Patton was an author and printer from Dunfermline, he was ''originally a weaver, but afterwards a turner. He made his own wood-cuts to illustrate his publications. It is said, and doubtless correctly, that he kept the type set up, and printed off copies as required. This must have resulted in more editions than can be chronicled. D. July 1844, in his seventy-eighth year(Henderson's Annats, pp. 652-653). The father of Joseph Neil Paton,.senr. Works of his printing are of the greatest rarity.''-quote from Erskine Beveridge's ''A Bibliography of works relating to Dunfermline and West Fife''(1901).
