Collection of correspondence and a notebook 'containing old Scots proverbs, compiled in connection with Beveridge's edition of Fergusson's Proverbs'. Erskine Beveridge had proposed to print the manuscript of a 1641 edition of Fergusson's Proverbs, David Fergusson was a Minister at Dunfermline and had collected together Scots Proverbs which had been printed in various edtions in the 17th & 18th centuries. Beveridge had come across an earlier manuscript of this work and proposed to have it printed. The letters cover various questions researching David Fergusson, letters to book sellers and antiquaries to purchase related materials. Some of the letters are from after Erskine Beveridges death and relate to Mrs Beveridge's attempts to complete the publication of this work.
