A history of The Carnegie United Kingdom Trust from its inception in 1913 to its 50 year anniversary in 1963. This book exaamines the work of the trust and its impact on the social and cultural changes that have taken place in those 50 years. The trust was formed for ''the improvement of the well-being of the masses of the people of Great Britain and Ireland'' and at the time of its creation was a unique body within the voluntary sector. As social changes continued with greater provision of statutory services the role of the trust had to develop and change with the times.
