Books, Manuscripts
Calotype is an early photographic process in which negatives were made using paper coated with silver iodide. It was introduced in 1841 by William Talbot. In this book, Thomas Rodger uses this technique to produce beautiful full-page images of Fife. These are accompanied by short chapters detailing information about the area and history surrounding the image. For example, there is a lovely picture of Dunfermline Palace Ruinsin a chapter informing us as to the history of royal Dunfermline, that the roof fell in in 1708, wall dimensions, and that the Palace is 'entangled in a woof of greenery'.
