he New Testament gives no instructions, and is utterly silent on this subject-- The spiritual nature of the Kingdom of Christ is altogether incompatible with the union of Church and State--Under the mosaic dispensation an appeal was made directly to God, which cannot be done under the Christian Dispensation--If there exist a right to establish the true religion, there must exist an equal right in favour of false religions--The injustice and dishonour of establishing religion by law-- National establishments are impracticable in civilised society--To establish religion by law must naturally corrupt it
