Burgesses of Perth : 1600-1699

Dobson, David2002
Books, Manuscripts
From the Middle Ages to the early 19th century economic and social power in Scottish burghs was in the hands of the burgesses. They comprised merchants and craftsmen and only they had the power to vote, operate businesses and to trade within the burghs. Perth has no surviving burgess roll but David Dobson has compiled a list of seventeenth century burgesses from various, referenced, sources. His list of burgesses is in alphabetical order.
