The narrative of the Patient Griselda is one of the most wide spread of the stories which have come down to us from the middle-ages. The story can be traced back to the middle of the fourteenth century and here is reproduced for our enjoyment today. The full title given is as follows: 'The ancient true and admirable history of patient Grisel, a poore mans daughter in France: shewing how maides, by her example, in their good behaviour may marrie rich husbands; and likewise wives by their patience and obedience may gaine much glorie.'
