In 2017 the family of late Jim Mackie of Ballingry offered his personal collection relating to the social and industrial history of the Benarty area to the Benarty Heritage Group. This volume is the first in a series to be published under the name of 'Beneath the Sleeping Giant' utilising items from Jim's collection. Included is an account of the care of the poor in the Benarty area over the last hundred years and more by Malcolm Duncan, a section on some of the miner poets from the Benarty area, a short piece on the life and career of politician Sir John George and a piece on the recollections of the football player Archie Ferguson. There is an article that looks at the history of the Fife Coal Company and more general articles on the social history of the Benarty area. The volume is illustrated with old photographs.
