This book deals with Middle Scots, the literary language of Scotland written between the latter half of the fifteenth century and the early decades of the seventeenth. Smith’s examination of relevant manuscripts of the time include some of the works of Dunfermline poet Robert Henryson: The prologue to Aesop’s Fables, The Cock and the Jewel, The Annunciation, Robene and Makyne and The Taill of the Paddok and the Mous.
