James Speed was born in Edinburgh in 1787. He moved to Dalgety in Fife in 1793. He became a merchant in Burntisland and in due course was elected to the town council. He also gained a reputation as a respected local historian. Burntisland Heritage Trust decided that his records were of considerable value and represented the first written history of Burntisland so therefore decided to publish them. This book is the result
