Each volume contains a series of line engravings of historical design executed in steel and produced so as to resemble lightly finished drawings in sepia. There are 69 drawings in total over two volumes; 43 historical designs, 20 portraits and 6 relics. The contents page contains information on the original works. There is a short history and context preceding each work, making this a fascinating and informative book.
