The letter is a request for a grant from Dunfermline City Mission for a bequest from the Late Earl of Moray's estate. Interest from an earlier bequest from one of the mission's founders, Mr. Kerr of Middlebank, donations and other small sources of income were still leaving a shortfall of approximately £15 on the £115 needed to run the mission and pay a missionary. In support of the request, a history of the mission and details of the valuable charitable work it provided is described.
