Lord Cockburn's journal detailing his various legal circuit journeys made during the period Autumn 1837 - September 1853. His opinion was that a journal of a circuit judge would prove an invaluable source of information which other records did not possess. It would contain a uniformity of subjects, a description from age to age of the same sort of occurrences and of the same parts of the country and their gradual changes.
