Janet Hoare was born in Dunfermline in Fife on October 10th, 1902 but shortly after her birth the family moved to Harrow where her father took up the position of parish minister. After a varied educational career, part of which she spent studying medicine at the London School of Medicine for Women, she decided to become a missionary and embarked on a journey to India teaching Christianity to its people
