Reginald Fairlie's architectural reputation rests mainly upon his large contribution to church building in the period from just before the First World war to just after the Second. In addition to this work his most notable achievement was the National Library of Scotland building. Other commissions included private houses, public buildings, war memorials and personal memorials. The book contains a complete catalogue of his works , illustrated with black and white photographs
