The origins of Dunnikier Cricket Club, like most cricket clubs are obscure. Legend has it that some local lads approached the master of Dunnikier House, Mr. James Townsend Oswald in May 1856 and asked him for the use of one of his fields to play cricket and perhaps other sports as well. Believing that this sport of cricket would be beneficial for the youngsters and would keep them out of mischief, the enlightened Mr. Oswald agreed, and Dunnikier Cricket Club was born
