Souvenir programme for a performace of 'The Masque of St. Andrews', it was specially written for the Festival of Britain. The performance was sponsored by the Byre Theatre Company, Directed by Mr. David S. Cooper, and produced by Mr. Ian W. Hendry. the first episode commemorates the arrival of the Papal Bulls which established the University of St. Andrews (1414). The second episode recreates the welcome given by the people of St. Andrews to James V and his Queen, Mary of Lorraine (1538). The third episode depicts an incident in the life of Mary, Queen of Scots during one of her visits to St. Andrews (1563). Episode four depicts the escape of Lord Ogilvy from the Castle of St. Andrews (1646). Episode five tells how the famous gutta ball came to be used (1847). Part of the Masque was performed in the grounds of the Cathedral and at the Younger Hall in St. Andrews.
