This volume begins with an explanation of the history of the office of Sheriff and the powers and duties attributed to them. This is followed by a history of the Sheriffs of Clackmannan giving a list of those that held the office from 1306 to the 19th century. There is an accompanying list of the Sheriff-Substitutes and Sheriff-Clerks from 1748 to the end of the 19th century. The rest of the volume is dedicated to extracts of records from the court.
