James Cumming : an appreciation

Firth, Jack1995
Books, Manuscripts
James Cumming is recognized as one of the most significant talents to emerge in the post-war period. His vision runs through the entire oeuvre, from the visual drama of still lifes like 'Beaker, Dirk and Sheath' to the haunting presence of his Hebridean figures, such as 'The Atlantic Fisherman'. His great mural in Linlithgow bears witness, in the variety of figures and the happiness of its invention, to the painter's own humanity.
