Born in Markinch in 1853, Peter Thompson emigrated with his family to the United States 1865. He enlisted in the US cavalry in 1875 and participated in the Little Bighorn campaign in 1876, for his actions during the campaign he received the Congressional Medal of Honour for heroism. This booklet traces Peter's origins in Markinch and follows his life in the United States.
