A unique miscellany of material principally on the 1st Fifeshire Rifle Volunteers, but incorporating some items on other regiments. Amongst inclusions in this treasure trove are newspaper cuttings, photographs, letters, minutes, expense accounts, cartoons, event programmes, tickets and invitations. Not all are arranged chronologically. Particularly interesting are the many photographs, sometimes with names and captions, of military personnel from all ranks and of royalty and aristocracy. In volume 8, there is even a full programme of the ceremonials occasioned by Queen Victoria's death on 22nd January 1901, up to and including her funeral on 2nd February, 1901. The ten surviving volumes in this collection were donated by Mrs. J. McFarlane, widow of Colonel James McFarlane, compiler of the majority.
