This exploration of the East Coast of Scotland, takes the form of a series of letters from the author to a friend. The letters begin with Edinburgh, Kinghorn to Crail, St. Andrews, Dundee, Arbroath, the coast to Montrose, Stonehaven, Aberdeen and finally the Banffshire coast. There are many letters dedicated to Aberdeen and the surrounding area, constituting the majority of the volume, however each letter is filled with good descriptions of the areas visited, the occupations of the inhabitants and so on.
