Discovering the historical lowlands

Hillson, Norman1958
Books, Manuscripts
The history of the Lowlands of Scotland is steeped in drama, and many ancient buildings and monuments still stand to remind us of it. In this book Norman Hillson takes us to the scenes of the Lowlands' colourful past. He takes us first to Edinburgh where he tells stories of the Castle and the Royal Mile and of Holyroodhouse. We then go to Glasgow ; to Ayr and the country of Robert Burns ; to Carlisle, the Gateway of the North ; to Berwick and the Tweed Valley ; to St. Andrews and the Kingdom of Fife ; to Perth, the fair city ; and to the royal burgh of Stirling. In the course of these journeys he draws our attention to well-known and little-known facts and features, and conjures up on-the-spot flashes from history that are sometimes of tragic memory, occasionally amusing, but always deeply interesting.
