Jim Crawford stood out in motor racing circles. A combination of being a great driver and a genuinely nice guy made him popular with fans, team members and even rivals. Jim's initial rise to Formula 1 was meteoric but it wasn't to last long. After struggling to rebuild his career he made a name for himself in America, racing primarily in the renowned Indianapolis 500. It was there he suffered a devastating accident which could have ended his career, but Jim was above all a fighter. Through all the disappointment and pain Jim perservered with that familiar grin which endeared him to so many people. When he passed away in 2002 aged just 54 the racing world mourned the loss of a true gentleman and a modest hero to many.
