Eden Estuary : local nature reserve management plan 1987-1992

North East Fife (Scotland). District Council1987
Books, Manuscripts
In 1968 it was proposed that the Eden Estuary be designated as a Local Nature Reserve, subsequently it was declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1971 and eventually in 1978 North East Fife District Council designated the Eden Estuary as a Local Nature Reserve under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act (1949). The management plan brings together the history and natural history of the LNR and considers the options for management of the site. The report brings together data about the estuary which covers: environmental information, biological information, land uses, geology, distribution of algae and molluscs, vegetation types, distributions of princiapal invertebrate food sources for avians, principal areas and sites used by birds for roosting and feeding at high tide, access to wildfowling, surrounding land use and accompanying map of the Eden Estuary showing compartment boundaries. The appendices gives further data with lists of birds, marine invertebrate records, survey results and information about the saltmarsh and swamp communities. Having laid out the history and data in the first part of the plan, the second part continues to outline the conservation status of the site, an evaluation of features and site potential, definition of important features and the operational objectives and management options.
