This item is a 1995 facsimile reprint of William Ballingall's 1872 book on Fife. Ballingall declares in the preface his interest in the 'art of Engraving on Wood' and the book is lavishly illustrated with ‘some of the most picturesque and historical scenes, ruins, and objects of interest’ – the List of Illustrations runs to three pages. The chapters are each written by a different Scotsman, and various artists are involved too, including William Ballingall himself, Sir Joseph Noel Paton and Waller Paton. Ballingall engraved the works. The book ends with a three-page list of the names and addresses of subscribers.
