This report has been drawn up on the instructions of Dunfermline Town Council on January 18th 1969. The findings of two important consultants' studies have been incorporated in this report. The shopping report by Messrs. Diamond and Gibb, commisssioned in April, 1968 and presented in October 1969, deals with the projected distribution of employment and retail floor area in Dunfermline in1986. The employment and shopping space forecasts for the central area form the basis of the author's recommendations in this report for the size of future shopping developments. This shopping report is included as an appendix to this volume.
