Marshall Winslow Stearns, before he went on to found the Institute of Jazz Studies, was a lecturer in English. In this book he seeks to end the neglect of Dunfermline poet Robert Henryson, ‘to clear the way for a better understanding and appreciation of the poet and his poetry’. The front end paper of this copy of the book (FCT33968) bears the written inscription: ‘Presented to Dunfermline Public Library by Hugh MacDiarmid. November 1950’.
